Centre for Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Research and Studies (CIMRS) at the University of Maribor (UM) has been established by the senate of the University of Maribor in 1994. Its mission is to provide an innovative ecosystem for scientific and research activities, which evolve from and/or aim at creating links and co-operations between various scientific fields, academic and industrial institutions, companies, nations and countries, social spheres and macro-economic environments. The ultimate goal of such interconnections is to provide a consistent foundation for increased competitiveness of Slovenia in the fields of science, research, development and technology.

 

Within its registered activities CIMRS UM supports formation of multi- and interdisciplinary scientific networks of excellence, transfer of scientific achievements into practice, popularisation of science and provides various research, consultation and information services. In the scope of UM, CIMRS stands as one of the key organisations implementing the broadest field of initiatives aiming at the stimulation of cross-disciplinary scientific work with the following functions.

 

  • Organisation: forming and leading the consortium for innovatiove environment within the UM and beyond (regional and global)
  • Content: sLabs (student labs and studios, www.raz.um.si/#!slabs/cqy1); connecting science and arts through Out ot the Box activities (seminar.outofthebox.si); establishing DEMOLA Maribor movement (maribor.demola.net)
  • Communication: branding and media presence of UM through the usage of RAZ:UM brand (www.raz.um.si)
  • Infrastructure: all activities connected with the new IOT centre (Innovative Open Technologies), aimed to carry out research strategies UM in the field of innovation and knowledge transfer.

 

Through its existing teams CIMRS UM represents a competent partner in national, European and global research efforts. However, with the model to stimulate and support establishment of new groups within CIMRS UM, it secures the basis for integrated and co-operative research also in emerging fields.
